Welcome
February can be a dreary month. The joy of celebrating Christmas is long gone, the weather often remains bitter, and the evenings are still dark. So why not book onto the Northern Women’s Convention at Stockton-on-Tees so that there’s something uplifting in your diary to look forward to in the new year?
It’s a day of heart-warming encouragement as we gather with women from throughout the North East; from all sorts of churches, backgrounds and circumstances. We listen to God
speaking through His word; sing His praises in response; and spur one another on over coffee and a pastry.
Alice Cornes, our main speaker, will guide us through the opening chapters of 1 Corinthians. They are strikingly relevant for Christians today. Just like the Corinthians, we all have a complex relationship with opinions – how other people view us and also how we view ourselves and others. God has help for us in these chapters. He makes his people both deeply humble and unshakeably confident.
Our seminars cover a wide range of topics so there’s something for everyone to choose from. The 10ofThose bookstall will be back: offering a multitude of books to peruse and bargains to bag!
Our prayer is that God will use this day to equip us all to love and serve Him better; and that we will return home refreshed and built up in faith, having shared a day of fellowship with Christian women from throughout the region.

Alice Cornes
Alice enjoys people. Her ideal day involves a lot of chatting. She has been working for her church in Toxteth (Liverpool) since 2013 and finds that each year gets better and better. She loves explaining the Bible – mostly to adults – but a couple of times a week she gets to teach some wonderful, rowdy primary school children! Despite being an adopted scouser, she’s failed miserably at picking up the accent.

THE JOY SET BEFORE US
Agnes Brough

We deprive ourselves of comfort and help when we avoid thinking about death and eternity. Christians have nothing to fear and MUCH to look forward to, so we’ll spend this whole seminar thinking about heaven and the new creation. God’s word reminds us of our future glory to spur us on to keep going to the end. So let’s do our souls good and dig into the encouragement of Scripture filling our minds and hearts with the joy set before us.
Agnes Brough is on the staff of the Tron Church in Glasgow where she mostly teaches children and young people the unsearchable riches of Christ – great job! The rest of the time she enjoys crochet, cryptic crosswords and singing in a choir (and not just because they alliterate).
The Bible and the Seasons of Womanhood
Sarah Allen
SOLD OUT

Women’s seasons of life, whether joyful or difficult, are often tightly tied to what is going on in their bodies. Menstruation, menopause, ageing, and perhaps childbearing, illness or infertility leave their mark on our hearts. Christians are good at applying the Bible to our spiritual lives, but what about these bodily experiences? In this seminar we’ll be thinking about what God teaches us about our bodies and how this can bring comfort and challenge for the everyday.
Sarah Allen teaches English in a sixth form college and is involved in women’s and children’s ministry in her church in Huddersfield, where her husband is pastor. In spare moments she loves to get outside, whether walking, running or gardening.
SERVING WHEN SPENT
Paula Harris
SOLD OUT

How can we balance our time between work, friends and church? Who is in charge of our time? Busyness can feel like an insurmountable problem but it’s temporary and won’t last forever. Paula will help us to think about our full lives in a new way so that we can find rest in our busyness and joy in our labour.
Paula is northern and proud of it and happily settled back in Sheffield after a time of exodus in the Midlands. She is a Children and Families’ worker at Christ Church Fulwood and has a background in social work. She is also a diehard Liverpool FC supporter and juggles life around two teenagers, two dogs and a husband.
