Speaker

Steve Midgley

Words matter. God speaks creation into being and then speaks commands to the people he has made. The ten commandments are, literally, the ten words. The incarnation was the Word made flesh bringing a gospel that is nothing less than the living word of God. Words matter.

But all too often men are caricatured as not being good with words. The male stereotype lives on – strong, silent and unable to express ourselves. Yet the Bible calls us to talk. In friendships, in marriage and in church God wants us to use words wisely and well.

How can we do that? The much-misunderstood phrase ‘speaking the truth in love’ will be Steve’s launching point, as he helps us consider how, and why, we must make our words matter. Come and be encouraged to serve Christ as talking men.

Workshops
We’ve a selection of engaging workshops to explore deeper the themes raised in our main talks. You’ll need to indicate your choice when booking.

Talking about
anger

Steve Midgley

Anger wears many faces – from irritation and moodiness to bitterness and rage – we find so many ways to be angry. We all have an anger problem – it just gets expressed differently. In this workshop we’ll get practical about managing our anger, not through behavioural techniques but by exploring the allegiances and desires of our hearts.

Talking with
your wife

Adrian Reynolds

Husbands are told to ‘treat your wife with understanding as you live together’ (1 Peter 3:7). That means we need to be talking with our wife AND listening too! This workshop will help us to grow together as we seek to do both better.

Talking about
what matters

Peter Skerratt

It’s too easy to slip into banter or banality as blokes. How can we as men be better at talking to one another about what really matters in our lives? This workshop aims, very practically, to help us get beyond the banter and talk about what matters.

Staying refreshed
in Leadership

Phil Sweeting

Many leaders in churches spend more time talking about God than to Him. How can we ensure that as we serve others, we do so from a place of spiritual health and joy? This workshop will help us think together about developing spiritually healthy patterns to help us keep going in our ministries. This workshop is for any involved in leadership, including lay-leaders.

Youth stream

We’re delighted to be able to offer a youth stream (14-18). The teenagers will join the main sessions but have their own dedicated workshop before and after lunch, led by experienced and DBS checked youth leaders.
