The Northern Women's Convention
Ruth was a simple woman, widowed, childless and desperately poor living in a foreign country. Her life was just a brief history in time. She was unimportant, yet she features in God's history of the world: her story is still told thousands of years later.
Our life stories may never be told and even if some of us reach the dizzy heights of a biography it will be unlikely that the book would remain in print for long. So why is the book of Ruth so important? This year at the Northern Women's Convention Carrie Sandom is joining us again to help us explore this part of the bible. We will be challenged to see God's hand in the history of one women and of the whole world.
Ruth declared to Naomi:
"Your people will be my people, and your God my God" Ruth 1:16
As Christians we are a people who belong to God, aliens and strangers in this world looking forward to the time when all of history draws to a close: when history turns from chaos to splendour.
We often forget that each of us is important in God's purposes. We can so easily lose sight of our heavenly hope in the mundane chores of daily living, or even in the comforts of material riches around us. We doubt God's sovereignty when life seems to spiral out of control in the chaos of this world and we struggle to cope.
We have two choices for seminars to help us engage biblically with a wide variety of issues. We want to grapple with difficult life circumstances such as childlessness; how to be better equipped to pass on Gods great plan for history to others; how to grow in our own relationship with God, and personal godliness.
The Northern Women's convention is a great opportunity for Christian women from many different churches to meet together and encourage one another so that we will not grow weary or lose heart. Each year women rejoice in the fellowship and teaching they receive. I am confident that we will be refreshed, encouraged and inspired as we sing God's praises, listen to his word and work out together how to live out our individual histories for Christ's glory until he returns.
I hope to see you there.
