The Convention

The Northern Men's Convention

The Northern Men's Convention 2012 will be taking place on Saturday 12th May at The Armitage Centre in Manchester. The theme is 'Christians at Work'.

When God created man in His image, he created man to work. Work was part of the creation mandate for man. Although work becomes difficult and even toil as a result of the fall, men are still expected to be workers.

But what is the point of work? How does being a Christian man affect the way we think of work? What is the difference between work and employment? Whatever your experience of work, the Northern Men’s Convention 2012 will be a great opportunity to unpack what work means for God and the Christian man.

Speaker

Dr David Cook

Dr David Cook, recently retired as Principal of Sydney Missionary Bible College, will address these and other related issues from scripture with the aim of equipping us to have a Biblical understanding of work and encouraging us to live for Jesus in our workplace.

There will also be a range of seminars and interviews with those who have worked through these issues and are making their Christian faith known in gracious and practical ways.

Seminars

Unashamed at Work

The workplace provides both opportunities and challenges for the Christian man. In this seminar we will be exploring how we can best witness for Jesus by taking opportunities to introduce colleagues to the gospel, as well as exploring how to live a godly life faced with the complex moral and ethical issues the workplace presents and thus make an impact on our work colleagues.

Working when not employed

Not all Christian men are employed. Some have retired, others are out of work for a variety of reasons. However, work is something we are all created to do! In this seminar we will be looking at what work opportunities there are for those not employed, encouraging us not to be idle or lazy, but instead to direct our time to new areas that are good and useful. This seminar is not just for those who are not employed but for any who wish to explore the opportunity that being out of paid work gives.

Maintaining the work/life balance

Work can be demanding, stressful and absorb more and more of our time. We may feel under pressure from employers to give ourselves 24/7 to the demands of our jobs for fear of losing promotion or even being made redundant. It is often a hard place in which to be. In this seminar we will seek to understand the various responsibilities that compete for our time. We will explore how we can get the right balance between them, so that we have the right balance between work, church, community and home life.
